When Life (and Gravity) Hit Hard

You don’t realize how fragile momentum is—until gravity makes a point of reminding you.

Larry recently found that out, during what should have been a perfect late spring day at Jay Peak. After an unexpected powder dump, he hit the glades for one last shot at some prime late-season conditions (Jay Peak clocked over 400 inches this year—pretty epic by anyone’s standards).

Bobbing and weaving through the trees, Larry made a split-second decision to cut right—directly in front of a gnarly birch. His momentum was carrying him one way while his board was turned another, and the next thing he knew, he was bouncing off the tree like a pinball, sending his helmet and Insta360 flying through the woods.

He walked away with a tweaked back and an elbow injury that put him in a sling for a week. Not exactly the souvenir he was hoping for.

Meanwhile, I was on more familiar ground—literally. About three-quarters of the way through one of our team runs, huffing and puffing across the Main Street bridge near Stop & Shop, I turned mid-stride to crack a joke at Yev. Bad timing. My right foot landed awkwardly on the edge of the bike trail, twisting hard to the side. My knee instinctively buckled to save me from a torn tendon or fracture. No serious injuries, thankfully, but my ankle spent the next two weeks complaining.

We’re both stubborn enough to laugh it off. But the truth is, those injuries slowed us down, disrupted our routines, and forced us to rethink how we approached our recovery.

The thing is—businesses experience the same thing all the time.

Injuries and inefficiencies share the same problem: if you don’t address them, you don’t just stay stuck, you fall further behind.

The Parallel: Injuries vs Business Inefficiencies

At first, you might limp through it—patching together solutions, covering for lost ground, promising yourself you’ll “clean it up later.”

But just like a twisted ankle ignored too long, business inefficiencies compound quietly.

Documents disappear. Processes slow down. People burn out. Opportunities slip away.

Without the right systems—and the right partner—a small problem becomes a major liability.

5 Signs Your Business Might Be ‘Injured’ Without Knowing It

Just like you can limp for weeks without realizing you’ve got a serious sprain, businesses often miss the early warning signs:

  • You’re constantly hunting for documents — like trying to find your crutches buried in the garage.
  • Data entry feels endless and soul-crushing — repetitive, manual, and full of errors.
  • Compliance audits cause panic attacks — because everything is scattered across folders and inboxes.
  • Departments use different systems that don’t talk to each other — hello, data silos.
  • Important work keeps falling through the cracks — projects stall, customers get frustrated, teams lose morale.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. And the good news is—you can fix it before the limp becomes permanent.
